Far Cry New Dawn
Release Date: February 15, 2019
Far Cry New Dawn picks up 17 years after Ubisoft dropped nukes on the world of Far Cry 5, but thankfully the series’ trademark gameplay, crafting and incentive to explore the world have survived the apocalypse. The familiar Far Cry gameplay elements have evolved, and a new cast of interesting characters power a plot based on survival and redemption.
Far Cry New Dawn introduces some awesome-looking new gameplay elements like Expeditions, which take you out of Hope County and put you in unique locations for special missions. If you like carnage, gunfire and animal companions in a colourful post-apocalyptic setting, Far Cry New Dawn comes highly recommended.
Crackdown 3
Release Date: February 15, 2019
Crackdown 3 puts you in the boots of a super-powered agent in a futuristic city, stopping crime with destructive abilities and a transforming vehicle. This energetic action-adventure serves mass-scale destruction, co-operative multiplayer and a campaign featuring voice talent like Terry Crews. Boom!
There’s also an all-new game mode called The Wrecking Zone, which throws you into a 100% destructible combat arena so you can leave your mark on the world. If you like big booms and you cannot lie, this delightful ballad of carnage is a great score.
Anthem
Release Date: February 22, 2019
BioWare Edmonton has crafted a beautiful world in Anthem, but it’s equally as dangerous as it is enticing. Don the role of a Freelancer, an exosuit-wearing warrior protecting humanity from the end of times against a shadowy faction of villains.
You can suit up with up to three other players, powering up your exosuit by spilling blood on the battlefield. Rise together with your friends, triumph over increasingly stronger adversaries and save the world. Anthem looks to be one of the biggest co-op experiences of this console generation, and it also features single player for those flying solo, too.
Devil May Cry 5
Release Date: March 8, 2019
Devil May Cry 5 will toss endless hordes of demons at you, and that’s exactly what the series is known for: unforgiving and unforgettable action. The in-depth combat system will reward players who master combos, dodges, and a variety of moves—if you’re skilled enough to pull them off!
Filled with over-the-top combat and memorable returning series characters like Dante and Nero, Devil May Cry 5 is a hack-and-slash you won’t forget. Capcom is also introducing a new character, V, who has a completely different fighting style than Dante or Nero—this should be a treat.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
Release Date: March 15, 2019
Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is the perfect type of game to play with a few friends online who can squad up together. The game is set in Washington 7 months after the events of Tom Clancy’s The Division and things are looking grim: the city has become a warzone, as fighting between survivors and independent sects vie to control the post-pandemic city streets.
This online action RPG will test your mettle in a modern post-apocalyptic environment, and success is more than just surviving: it’s getting better loot, working well as a team and finding tougher adversaries. Ubisoft will support the title post-launch with episodic content, keeping you entertained on the streets of Washington for some time.
Mortal Kombat 11
Release Date: April 23, 2019
The legendary Mortal Kombat series is back, and Mortal Kombat XI looks to deliver everything that the series is known for and more. Featuring plenty of combination attacks, gory Fatalities and a sizable roster of fighters, Mortal Kombat XI looks like one of the best fighting games of this console generation.
Parents should remain aware of the game’s adult content, which includes plenty of gore and brutality. For everyone who’s game for that, it’s just as Scorpion says: get over here!
Ori And The Will Of The Wisps
Release Date: TBA 2019
Ori And The Will Of The Wisps takes players along a beautiful journey, but it’s not without danger. This side-scrolling adventure is a direct sequel to the wonderful Ori and the Blind Forest, one of the best puzzle platformers available on Xbox One.
The game explores an exotic world filled to the brim with challenging puzzles and one-of-a-kind enemies. You should expect an emotional, powerful and gripping storyline from start to finish. The game features a beautiful orchestral soundtrack to support the magic happening on-screen, so strap yourself in for the adventure experience of a lifetime.
The Outer Worlds
Release Date: TBA 2019
The Outer Worlds puts you in the middle of a retro-futuristic sci-fi fantasy galaxy filled to the brim with interesting characters, quests and dialogue choices. The game was recently announced at The Game Awards 2018 and is developed by legendary RPG developer Obsidian Entertainment.
The Outer Worlds doesn’t take its science fiction setting too seriously, so you should expect some quality humor as you explore the outer worlds. First-person action aplenty will be found as you explore the galaxy, though there are often ways to solve problems without violence, too. This quirky sci-fi is expected to release in late 2019.
Battletoads
Release Date: TBA 2019
At long last, Battletoads is coming back! With 3 player couch co-op and gorgeous hand-drawn graphics, the Xbox One will play host to the first new Battletoads game in over 20 years. We toad you it was coming back!
Given its early ’90s arcade inspiration, Battletoads will be a fantastic title for gamers who aren’t afraid of a challenging arcade experience with unforgiving, satisfying gameplay. You can prepare yourself for Battletoads glory by playing the original game via Rare Replay, an Xbox One title full of classic hits.
Gears 5
Release Date: TBA 2019
Gears of War is a juggernaut Xbox series: it’s got satisfying action and epic boss battles carried forward by an engrossing plot. If you like testosterone-fueled shooting, mature action, and an intuitive cover system, you’ll be right at home in the war-torn world of Gears.
The game’s campaign follows Kait Diaz as she uncovers the origins of the enemy Locust horde. Gears 5 lets you team up with a buddy for splitscreen or online co-op action, and intensely competitive multiplayer modes give the game an infinite replayability factor. Altogether, this Triple-A powerhouse promises to be one of the best action experiences of the year.
Halo Infinite
Release Date: TBA
Halo Infinite is one of the most-hyped Xbox One games of all time, and for good reason. The Halo series has been the golden standard of polished action, and Halo Infinite brings forth the long-awaited return of one of gaming’s biggest icons in Master Chief.
Microsoft confirmed that Halo Infinite will feature four-player local multiplayer, and gamers taking the fight online will be welcomed to a competitive world full of non-stop action. Little else is known about Halo Infinite so far, but 2019 will shine plenty of light into the next chapter of Master Chief’s story. This is the definition of a headliner.
The Xbox One is adding some truly elite games to its lineup for 2019, with a healthy mix of action, adventure and puzzle options to pick from. We hope you enjoy the games you pick up for Xbox One this year.
