Spawn, Joker and Arnold Schwarzenegger are joining Mortal Kombat 11… and more will likely follow.

After ample speculation, NeatherRealm Studios has pulled the curtain back on the DLC characters in Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pass. The studio did so in a star-studded trailer that finally gave us a glimpse of Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11. The two biggest reveals were saved for the end of the trailer, though. After a closeup of the Todd MacFarlane’s Spawn, we were treated to the confirmation that both Joker and Terminator T-800 are joining the fray.

You may recognize this version of The Terminator since he is being portrayed in Mortal Kombat 11 by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. This deal marks the second gaming crossover with the upcoming film Terminator: Dark Fate, following in the steps of the preorder DLC for Gears 5. The T-800 and Spawn look to be perfect fits for Mortal Kombat, but seeing Batman’s clown prince of crime enter this setting still feels odd. I’m sure he’ll have some horrific Fatalities that (in)justify his inclusion, though.

According to NetherRealm Studios, The Terminator will join MK11 on October 8th. He’ll then be followed by Sindel on November 26th. Joker will proceed to crash the party on January 28th. Finally, Spawn will escape hell and join the chaos on March 17th.

Could more characters be on the way for Mortal Kombat 11?

The Leak

While these guest combatants should be enough to appease Mortal Kombat fans, their reveal indicates that more is still to come. Back in April, Redditor LeoNatan datamined the Switch version of MK11 and found a long list of DLC fighters. Namely, all six characters that have been revealed thus far, as well as three additional alleged roster members.

Based on the report, the characters still missing are Mortal Kombat veterans Fujin and Sheeva, as well as Evil Dead’s Ash Williams. The latter is a character that fans have wanted to see join Mortal Kombat for some time now. Fans even believed that Ash would be amongst this first wave of characters after a chainsaw was teased in the Kombat Pass reveal trailer–a signature weapon of the character. Evidently, that’s not the case, but the accuracy of the datamined list suggests that there’s more DLC to come.

Riley's Take

There are variables to consider here before you get too excited over the prospect of seeing Fujin, Sheeva or Ash Williams join MK11. Perhaps NetherRealm opted to pursue the development of Injustice 3 or a brand-new fighting game. It’s possible that both would be more profitable than continued DLC for Mortal Kombat 11. Further questions about Ash Williams were raised when the actor behind the character, Bruce Campbell, seemingly debunked the rumours on Twitter.

If I were a betting man, I’d say that the datamine is (evil) dead on. Campbell’s comments, in particular, could be designed to restore excitement from a premature unveiling of Ash Williams. In my eyes, the fact that he’s talking about the leak at all is reason enough to raise an eyebrow at his comments.

Notably, NetherRealm’s Injustice 2 also included nine DLC fighters, so copying the same post-launch support system for Mortal Kombat 11 seems logical. If this is the case, then there’s a much bigger question fans should be asking. Namely, if these three are coming to the game, then do they make up half of a second Kombat Pass? It would make sense if the goal is to release fighters in groups of six. Even then, I can only speculate on what the composition of something like that would look like.

As it stands, it’s hard to beat the characters that we’re getting as DLC in MK11 and I’m excited to see them arrive well into 2019. Hell, I’m already getting prepared to say “hasta la vista” to anyone that gets in The Terminator’s way this October.
