Will these challengers join Mortal Kombat 11’s roster? Here’s our wishlist of 11 characters we want in the game.

For decades now, Mortal Kombat has given us a smorgasbord of dream matchups. From iconic horror battles like Freddy Krueger vs. Jason Voorhees to exciting gaming brawls like God of War’s Kratos vs. Scorpion, Mortal Kombat has made our fan fiction a reality. It’s a safe bet the same will occur in Mortal Kombat 11, arriving on April 23, 2019, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC platforms.

With each iteration of Mortal Kombat, we can’t help but envision our own dream roster additions, whether that’s beloved, returning mainstays or “outsiders” from popular entertainment properties entering the fold. If handed the keys to the kingdom, here are eleven characters we’d want to join the cast of Mortal Kombat 11!

Mortal Kombat 11: Eleven Dream Characters We Want

  1. Spawn
  2. Forest Fox
  3. Pennywise
  4. Reptile
  5. Chucky
  6. Rain
  7. Ash Williams
  8. Sindel
  9. The Terminator
  10. Akuma
  11. Deadpool
1

Spawn

The legendary comic book anti-hero Spawn would make a perfect roster addition in Mortal Kombat 11 for a couple of reasons. Firstly, his unique arsenal of brutal attacks would fit well in the MK universe, and secondly, he already has fighting game experience—thanks to his appearance in the Xbox version of SoulCalibur II.

Spawn may not even be a fantasy inclusion as Spawn’s creator Todd McFarlane teased fans by saying he “believes he’s on his way…” in a recent Reddit AMA. Fingers crossed that happens!

2

Forest Fox

Forest Fox, who Mortal Kombat X comic book fans will instantly recognize, would make another awesome inclusion. His ties as a protégé to Scorpion and tragic backstory would provide plenty of fodder for interesting storytelling. Plus, he’s got a unique ninja garb look, and sinister eyes that would make him stand apart in the crowded roster. To top it off, he has a potential “alternate costume” straight from the comic books where he has a skinned face similar in appearance to the Red Skull!

3

Pennywise

The terrifying clown from Stephen King’s IT would make everyone on the Mortal Kombat roster “float” if he joins the fray. Jokes aside, considering the fighting game series’ penchant for adding horror icons, few choices as unsettling as the man-eating Pennywise. His Fatality could be pulling his opponent into a storm gutter—complete with a toy ship made from Derry newspaper and his trademark red balloon!

4

Reptile

A Mortal Kombat game without the acid-spitting Reptile would feel incomplete. Debuting as a hidden character in the original arcade game, Reptile was quickly added as a playable character in the title’s sequel. He’s been in nearly every MK game since and has undergone a dramatic change from mysterious ninja to becoming a reptilian creature fitting of his name. Hopefully, we’ll witness Reptile’s return to the battle in MK11.

5

Chucky

Chucky, the horror legend from Child’s Play, would be another interesting challenger to enter the Mortal Kombat 11 fighting arenas. This living doll is dangerous and short, which could lead to his opponents underestimating him. Given his small stature and murderous tendencies, Chucky would make facing skilled warriors like Sub-Zero feel like mere “child’s play.”

6

Rain

Following in the footsteps of Reptile, Rain began life as a purple palette-swap ninja before eventually becoming a fully fleshed out fighter. His first (unplayable) appearance was in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and he later became playable in Mortal Kombat Trilogy using water-based attacks. Given his longstanding popularity with fans, and his cameo in MKX, I hope to see him join the cast of Mortal Kombat 11 sooner rather than later.

7

Ash Williams

With a chainsaw for an arm, Ash Williams from The Evil Dead franchise seems ready-made for Mortal Kombat. Aside from his dark origins that’s a natural fit for the MK universe, it’s his sense of humour would make him an ideal MK11 roster candidate. Thanks to his trusty “Boomstick” shotgun and chainsaw hand, Ash could pulverize his opponents several diabolical ways in true Mortal Kombat style.

8

Sindel

Despite possessing an evil demeanour, you shouldn’t be so quick to judge this book by her cover. Sindel has been known to help the good guys on occasion and is also the loving mother of Mortal Kombat mainstay Kitana. Her ability to control sound waves during combat has always made her a standout fighter. After failing to make a playable appearance in Mortal Kombat X, I feel like her return is past due.

9

The Terminator

Get ready to say “Hasta la vista” to the competition if The Terminator ever enters Mortal Kombat. This repurposed Skynet robot is no stranger to video games, having appeared in his own games and most recently as a playable character in WWE 2K16. Clearly, Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron are open to these sorts of crossovers.

Moreover, the relationship between Mortal Kombat’s developer NetherRealm Studios and WWE is a close one. The studio has gone so far as to develop a WWE game for mobile devices, known as WWE Immortals, and even cast current Raw Superstar Ronda Rousey as the voice of Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11. Perhaps NetherRealm could leverage that great relationship with WWE to help bring The Terminator into the MK universe!

10

Akuma

Video game characters crossing over into the world of Mortal Kombat is a rare sight. So far, the lone entrant from another gaming universe is Kratos, who was a PS3-exclusive fighter in Mortal Kombat (2011). Lately, though, there’s been a lot of chatter about a potential Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat game following a poll conducted by franchise co-creator Ed Boon on Twitter. How cool would it be for NetherRealm to test the waters by including Akuma on the MK11 roster?

Despite it being unlikely that Capcom would allow a Street Fighter character into an M-rated game, Akuma’s appearance would be a great leadup to an eventual crossover. Plus, Akuma recently starred in Tekken 7, so it’s clear that Capcom isn’t against licensing out the villainous fighter.

11

Deadpool

If NetherRealm were to include a Marvel character, the most obvious inclusion is the “Merc with a Mouth,” Deadpool. He’s the poster child of R-rated Marvel films, and despite Disney’s acquisition of Fox (including the Deadpool live-action film rights), this is unlikely to change anytime soon. Played by Ryan Reynolds in the movies, the absurdity surrounding Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking antics, dual katanas, and menagerie of armaments would make him an exciting addition to Mortal Kombat 11.

Another reason Deadpool should be considered is imagining all the hilarious conversations with Johnny Cage—the MK series’ resident comedian. Also, Ed Boon did mention a possible DC x Marvel fighting game in his Twitter poll, so perhaps the idea could be experimented by having Deadpool join MK11!

That wraps up my list of characters that should appear in Mortal Kombat 11. I should also mention the umm… online petition to have Scooby-Doo’s Shaggy join the MK11 roster, a petition that currently sits at over 375,000 signatures. NetherRealm Studios made it clear Shaggy isn’t likely to happen but hopefully, some of my choices make the cut!
